San Quentin Fire Dept.

I must say that I had no idea that the San Quentin prison had a fire dept. staffed with inmates. I didn't know that they had there own fire dept. period much less staffed with inmates, but on Weds. morning around 1 am after hearing faint calls for help along the facilities shore a prison officer notified the in house fire dept. who responded and pulled a man from the water who was without a life jacket. San Rafael Fire Dept then arrived and pulled a woman out of the water who was wearing a life jacket. The female survived but the male who went into cardiac arrest on the shore was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Apparently the couples boat engine had stalled and the man fell overboard trying to restart it and then capsized the boat trying to get back in.
